Core member Bill Rodgers
Core member Kate Hull Rodgers

We are a theatre company based in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. Our main focus is on mental health and recovery and all our shows reflect this. The company is made up of service users and health care givers. We are a theatre company for the mental health users, carers, health care workers, family and friends. We run workshops and create testimonial plays. We also run workshops for mental health groups. The core members of our company are Bill Rodgers and Kate Hull Rodgers. Kate is bi polar and Bill is her carer. Bill has thirty years’ experience as an actor, writer, director and musician. Kate wrote and acted in her award winning testimonial play CRACKED UP and toured it to 29 countries.

“We have been running for almost five years and have won a couple of awards for services to the community. We believe that not only will our members benefit from the creativity of a theatre group, but the audience will also gain. Testimonial theatre is a powerful way to tell our stories and de-stigmatise mental ill health and promote good mental health and wellbeing.”

“We want the company to be open to more than just users. We want to illuminate the stories of the carers (professional and non-professional) and family and friends. We want to show how mental health effects an entire community. Also we want to try and educate more about mental illness and to promote tolerance and a better understanding to help rid the stigma which often surrounds mental illness.”

Stepping Stones run three projects in town. Our core project is the Stepping Stone Theatre For Mental Health Company based at the Trinity Arts Centre in Trinity Street.

We also run the Downtown Daytime Drama Drop-in – this is a weekly meet up at Marshalls Yard Physiotherapy & Sports Injuries Clinic at Station Approach. Offering support through drama these sessions are referral only so please contact Bill or Kate on 01427 628888 for more infomation.

Our third strand is the Stepping Stone Saturday Strollers, (known as talk, walk, and eat). Meets alternate Saturdays at 11.00 am at the Marshalls Yard fountain. Enjoy a nice relaxing walk, a friendly chat and refreshments after. What’s not to like!
